Write for Rosebud

A proposal, a challenge, a fresh perspective. Start with the argument you want to make.

Contributions are open to writers from any student Labour society. Rosebud publishes policy analysis, opinion and journalism by young Labour members across Policy, Thorn, Comms, Global Left, Interviews, Reviews and History.

A pitch is a short explanation of your proposed article. It should give a reader enough to understand the idea, its relevance and how you would develop it.

What to include in a pitch

  1. A working headline. Make the subject and direction of the article clear.
  2. Your central argument. Explain the claim you want to defend, or the question your reporting will investigate, in a short paragraph.
  3. The section. Suggest Policy, Thorn, Comms, Global Left, Interviews, Reviews or History, and explain why the idea fits.
  4. Your evidence and approach. Identify the sources, reading or reporting you would use. Distinguish what you already know from what you still need to establish.
  5. A short introduction. Include your name, student Labour society and any relevant connection to the subject.

Keep it focused

Choose one main argument rather than a survey of everything about a topic. Explain what is at stake, consider the strongest objection and avoid claims you cannot support. Attribute quotations and make the source of factual claims clear.

Before sending

Check that the pitch explains what the article would add to the discussion. For an interview, distinguish a proposed conversation from one already agreed. For a review, identify the work you want to examine.

An argument worth making?

Rosebud welcomes contributions from writers at any student Labour society, not just LSE. Bring a clear question, a considered argument and a reason readers should care.
